Italy defender Andrea Cambiaso jokes that he must be ‘hospitalised’ if he thinks about Jérémy Doku and Bradley Barcola after the Azzurri games against France and Belgium.
The Azzurri reacted strongly to an EURO 2024 elimination at the hands of Switzerland and are unbeaten in the last four games. They beat France and Israel (twice) and drew against Belgium in the Nations League, and now they need just one point to qualify for the quarter-finals.
Cambiaso scored his first international goal against Belgium during the October break.
“It was all so quick. It hasn’t even been a year since the first call-up. Juventus were a dream as a kid, and the national team was beyond it,” the versatile defender told Corriere dello Sport.
Cambiaso was part of the team that faced a disappointing Euro exit last summer and confirmed that the team was not united enough.
This was one of the reasons why the Azzurri’s performances in Germany were so underwhelming.
“The group and the environment didn’t work,” he admitted.

“It was a mix of things. We were good at reacting even if there was enormous regret because you get some opportunities only once in a lifetime.”
Lastly, the reporter asked Cambiaso which opponents gave him a “headache” on the pitch, and the reply was pretty funny.
“Many, but if I think about Barcola and Doku, I must be hospitalised.”
During the same interview, Cambiaso also discussed recent rumours of a possible move to Real Madrid, his relationship with Juventus coach Thiago Motta, and his predecessor, Massimiliano Allegri.
