With only three foreign coaches this season, Serie A relies on more homegrown managers than any other top European league in 2024-25.

La Gazzetta dello Sport highlighted on Monday that Serie A relies on homegrown coaches more than any other top European league.

The pink paper noted on page 11 that 17 of the 20 Serie A coaches in the 2024-25 campaign are Italian. The only exceptions are Udinese‘s Kosta Runjaić, Como’s Cesc Fabregas, and Milan‘s Paulo Fonseca.

Runjaić and Fonseca were appointed this summer, while Fabregas led Como to Serie A promotion last season alongside Osian Roberts. Fabregas got his coaching badges this summer to take charge of Como alone.

No other country in the top five leagues relies on so many homegrown coaches.

La Liga is the closest to Serie A, with 15 Spanish coaches. France has ten local managers out of 18 Ligue 1 teams, and Germany has nine out of 20 in the Bundesliga.

The Premier League only counts three English coaches at the beginning of the 2024-25 campaign.
