Venezia appealed for VAR to rule out Inter’s equalizer in this evening’s Serie A clash due to a clash between striker Edin Dzeko and Venezia defender Marco Modolo.

However, according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, the decision of the VAR not to disallow the goal was the correct one as the action that the Venezia players were appealing over had taken place too far back in the play.

The Nerazzurri cancelled out Venezia’s opened with an equalizing goal by Nicolo Barella which the team had worked across the right-hand side of the pitch, and gave the team the foothold they needed in the game.

However, Venezia players immediately appealed to the referee to consult with VAR and rule out the strike on the basis that Dzeko had arguably committed a foul in the moments leading up to goal when competing with Modolo for an aerial ball.

However, according to the Gazzetta, the incident between Dzeko and Modolo was irrelevant as Venezia had managed to win possession twice between the incident and Barella finding the back of the net, so it was outside the scope of VAR.
