Italian referee Juan Luca Sacchi has come under fire for his decisions during Inter’s 3-2 Coppa Italia win over Empoli on Wednesday night, according to a report in the Italian print media today.
As has been reported by Corriere dello Sport today, Juan Luca Sacchi had a lack of control over the match for the entire duration, blowing his whistle fair too regularly for many people’s liking.
The major error came on the half hour mark when he awarded Empoli a penalty for an infringement from Denzel Dumfries. The Video Assistant Referee intervened and overturned the on field decision from Juan Luca Sacchi.
Inter went 1-0 up very early in the game thanks to an Alexis Sanchez header but by stoppage time the Nerazzurri were trailing 2-1.
An amazing acrobatic striker from Andrea Ranocchia took the game to extra time and that is where Stefano Sensi popped up with the winning goal to send Inter through.
