Italian journalist Giancarlo Padovan believes that wingback Matteo Darmian could be the key player for Inter in tomorrow evening’s derby clash with AC Milan.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, the journalist noted that right now the 33-year-old is in some of his very best form, whilst he will have the confidence that comes from being strongly backed by the fans.

Just as he did last season and the season before that, Darmian has proven that he is more than just a reliable backup option for Inter.

The former Manchester United, Parma, and Torino player has put in a string of outstanding performances both at right-wingback and, in recent matches, on the right side of a back three.

There is therefore a good chance that Darmian will be in the Nerazzurri’s starting eleven for tomorrow evening’s Serie A match against the Rossoneri, and for his part, Padovan believes that he can have his say.

Asked who he anticipates will be Inter’s key man in the derby, Padovan replied “Darmian, he’s in the best form, he’s reinvigorated, he knows that the fans and Inzaghi trust him.”

“He’s become a fan favourite, after Dumfries had seemed impossible to displace from the starting lineup.”
