FIGC president Gabriele Gravina voices his support for Inter Milan defender Francesco Acerbi following the not-guilty verdict.

The 36-year-old found himself in serious trouble when Napoli defender Juan Jesus accused him of racial abuse.

Nevertheless, the Nerazzurri veteran claimed his innocence, insisting he never used the n-word.

In the end, sporting justice acquitted Acerbi due to the lack of evidence.

The centre-back has thus avoided punishment and will be able to resume action when Inter host Empoli on Monday night.

For his part, Gravina opted against using his right to intervene following the verdict’s announcement.

Instead, the FIGC chief offers his backing to the Italy international while urging all parties to accept the outcome of the investigation.

“We now have a judicial decision that everyone must accept, including those who do not feel satisfied,” said Gravina during his press conference on Thursday via FcInter1908.

“There are principles that must be respected, otherwise we run the risk of blowing up the entire system.

“I accept the verdict and on a human level I will not refrain from embracing Acerbi when I see him.”

Gravina also explained that Acerbi’s expulsion from the Italian national team camp was only a precautionary measure.

“When we learned about the investigation, we decided to send him back home to avoid any distraction for the national team.

“According to the internal conduct policy, Acerbi defended himself and offered his version of the events.

“Whoever wears the blue shirt must maintain certain values. We know he is a good lad and we appreciate everything he has given to the Azzurri.”
