In the aftermath of Lyon’s dramatic victory 2-1 against Toulouse, Pierre Sage spoke about Georges Mikautadze’s (24) lack of goalscoring form since his arrival at the Groupama Stadium during his post-match press conference.

Olympique Lyonnais pulled off what was considered quite the coup when they were able to complete the signing of Mikautadze from FC Metz for a fee in the region of €18m. The Georgian international arrived at his boyhood club off the back of an impressive EURO 2024 with his country, where he scored three goals in 4 matches.

This came as no surprise as he ended the Ligue 1 season with the Lorraine club as the division’s most prolific striker after scoring 13 goals in 20 appearances. The 23-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Metz from Ajax. However, so far this season, goals have been difficult to come by for the Lyon-born forward. In his opening 7 matches, Mikautadze has failed to find the back of the net and also missed a penalty.

OL manager Pierre Sage believes it is just a matter of time before the Georgian striker starts to find the back of the net for his boyhood club, “I liked his second half better on the defensive side. He could have scored in the first half with his header on the corner. It will come, I really trust the players as long as they work and are in the right frame of mind.”
