Sunderland's Dennis Cirkin seems an ideal replacement for Kieran McKenna's system

Ipswich Town have turned down Premier League bids for left-back Leif Davis, but the Tractor Boys could consider cashing in if the right opportunity presents itself.

The Suffolk-based outfit have apparently rejected multiple top-flight offers for Davis, according to The Daily Telegraph's Mike McGrath, with the 25-year-old on the shortlist at numerous clubs who are wanting reinforcements in his position.

Former Leeds United defender Davis topped the assist charts in both League One and the Championship during Town's back-to-back promotion seasons, with 14 and 18 respectively.

Under contract until 2028, Ipswich may face a scenario where an offer is too good to turn down.

Should that happen, Sunderland's Dennis Cirkin could be an ideal replacement for Kieran McKenna's system.

Dennis Cirkin faces uncertain future at Sunderland

Cirkin's situation in Teeside has become somewhat unclear following Sunderland's summer business after getting promoted.

The Black Cats have already signed two out-of-contract left-backs this window. Reinildo Mandava, who last played for Spanish outfit Atletico Madrid and former West Ham favourite Arthur Masuaku.

This obviously adds heavy competition for the left-back position. Also, Cirkin's contract expires in a years time, and he currently earns an estimated £10k-per-week. All this suggests he could be available for a reasonable fee before Sunderland end up losing him for nothing.

Ipswich could see best out of Jack Clarke with Cirkin's arrival

Cirkin formed a proven partnership with Jack Clarke during their time together at Sunderland, and has previously spoken about how he enjoys playing with him.

"It's nice to link up with Jack (Clarke) again as well," Cirkin told The Sunderland Echo.

"He's a brilliant player and our connection on the pitch is second to none. I'm looking forward to see him doing his thing again," he added.

This on-the-pitch relationship could help Clarke come good at Ipswich, as it's fair to say he's struggled to make a consistent impact. In 37 games across all competitions for the Tractor Boys, Clarke has only managed to find the back of the net three times.

In his permanent spell in the North East, 24-year-old Clarke scored double-digit goals in each of his two full seasons - 11 and 15.

The pair's understanding of each other was so strong that Cirkin mentioned their triangle with Jobe Bellingham to local media, saying, " I think we just understand each other a lot... it's a pleasure to play behind them two,"

Cirkin offers something different to Leif Davis

Dennis Cirkin's prospective arrival would definitely be a change to what Ipswich fans are used to seeing with Davis. The latter plays almost as a left-sided forward in Mckenna's system - bombing forward to provide width and crosses.

Cirkin plays a bit more cautiously but still offers a goal threat, and that would let Clarke have the space out wide to be more effective. In the 24/25 season, Cirkin managed three goals and two assists in 39 Championship games.

The 23-year-old also played the full 90 minutes during the play-off final at Wembley against Sheffield United - and won 100% of his tackles.

Regardless of the reports that the Tractor Boys won't be selling Davis this window, if the club receives an offer that is worth accepting, it could be a no brainer given Cirkin's likely availability.

Change is almost certainly needed anyway if Ipswich want to get the best out of Clarke. In their opening league game against Birmingham City, he played 79 minutes and didn't create a single chance - Leif Davis did (one).
