Two of Hull's top players are being targeted by their former league rivals.

Ipswich Town have launched a £30 million+ bid for Hull City pairing Jaden Philogene and Jacob Greaves,

That is according to Football Insider, who claim that Kieran McKenna and co want to make a double marquee signing from the Championship, which they left behind when being promoted automatically in May.

As opposed to the more traditional route of signing players with experience in the top flight, when teams are promoted to the Premier League, Ipswich are opting for a different option.

The two under-23s have certainly shown themselves of being capable at the Championship level, and McKenna is evidently backing them to be able to replicate that form at the highest level.

Town have already secured deals for former West Ham United defender Ben Johnson and the permanent signing of Omari Hutchinson from Chelsea, who was on loan at Portman Road last season.

Hull have already lost Ozan Tufan in this window. The 29-year-old attacking midfielder left Humberside to go back to his homeland of Turkey to join Trabzonspor.

Hull City duo Jaden Philogene and Jacob Greaves attracting Premier League interest

Both Philogene and Greaves have attracted interest from other top flight teams too over the past season due to their standout 2023/24 campaigns.

They have each been linked with joining Everton in this window, with Philogene also being wanted audaciously by Spanish giants Barcelona.

Football Insider added that West Ham had held talks with the Championship side over potential deals for both the central defender and the winger.

Hull's owner Acun Ilicali has said that he won't stand in players' ways if they want to move on from City.

He said, via Liverpool World:

"But to make a bigger club, sometimes if a player says I want to go, that's a different case. For me, if one player changes, it's not the end of the road.

"But if any of my players, I will never want to ruin their career or their mood because by pushing them because there is a contract."

Ipswich Town may present the best top flight opportunity for Hull pairing

There's no shortage of intrigue over Philogene and Greaves from sides above their level. Even if they don't go in this window, if they continue on their current trajectories they will end up playing in the Premier League at some point, whether it's with the Tigers or not.

The question then becomes about where they go. Comparing the Tractor Boys, the Toffees and the Hammers, they all have varying merits and sit at different ends of the scale.

There may be the opportunity to play in European competitions at the London Stadium. Chances are though that, unless some of their stars move on, they may struggle for game time.

Merseyside's blue half will welcome a brand-new ground in the near future, but are more likely to be lower down the table as things stand.

As are Ipswich, but the point that Philogene or Greaves, or both, may come back to if it comes down to that choice is where is going to present them with the best opportunity to show their skills.

The duo would likely hope that a move to any of those three sides wouldn't be their last one in football. They'd surely want to try and go one better eventually. That won't be nearly as possible if they're on the bench.
