Ipswich Town and Norwich City are following the progress of Queen's Park midfielder Aiden McGinlay ahead of the summer transfer window.

That's according to a report from The Daily Record, who say that Celtic are also among the clubs showing an interest in the 17-year-old.

McGinlay only made the move to Queen's Park last summer, when he signed from fellow Scottish Championship side Partick Thistle.

Since then, the teenager has had to wait to make his senior debut for the club, instead playing at youth and B-Team level so far.

However, it seems as though his performances there have still done enough to attract some significant attention from elsewhere.

Ipswich and Norwich in McGinlay transfer race

As per this latest update, McGinlay had been on trial with Ipswich last summer, prior to his move from Partick to Queen's Park.

Evidently, no move to take him to Portman Road materialised after his previous trial with the Tractor Boys.

However, it is now thought that Ipswich have continued to follow the progress of McGinlay this season, and could move for the teenager this summer.

They are not alone with their interest though, with local rivals Norwich City also said to be among a number of English clubs who are interested in the midfielder.

Scottish champions Celtic are also reported to have shown an interest in a potential deal for McGinlay.

Due to the fact that he has been at the club for less than a year, Queen's Park will apparently be due a smaller compensation fee than had McGinlay than Partick Thistle would now be entitled to had he stayed there last summer.

This has of course been a memorable season for Ipswich, who made it back to back promotions with a second place finish in the Championship. As a result, they are now preparing for a return to the Premier League for the first time in over 20 years.

Norwich could also follow them into the top-flight if they are successful in their play-off campaign.

That begins for the Canaries on Sunday afternoon, when Leeds United make the trip to Carrow Road for the first leg of the semi-final.

For their part, Celtic currently sit top of the Scottish Premiership table, three points clear of Rangers - who they face on Saturday afternoon - with three games of the season remaining.

McGinlay could be one for the future

It does feel as though this may be one to watch out for over the course of the next few months.

Obviously, it is hard to imagine that McGinlay would be going straight into the first-team with any of Ipswich, Norwich or Celtic, if he was to join one of those clubs.

Given his lack of senior experience at any level, that would surely be to big a jump for the teenager to make.

However, the fact he is attracting such interest after his impressive performances at youth level, does seem to show the potential he has to develop into an asset in the future.

That could make him a lot more valuable further down the line. It would therefore, surely make sense for these clubs to try and secure his services now while he is available for a comparatively cheap price, presenting the opportunity for a big profit in the years to come.

So with all that in mind, it does seem as though any of these clubs who able to complete a deal to sign McGinlay in the summer, would be securing themselves something of a coup.
