David Peretz has joined Bayern on a five-year contract through to June 2028 following his move from Maccabi Tel Aviv. fcbayern.com introduces you to the 23-year-old Israeli goalkeeper…
Peretz is the first Israeli player to sign for Bayern and is regarded as one of the most promising goalkeepers of his age in Europe. The 1.87m-tall shot-stopper is seen as good in both one-on-ones and on his line. A modern goalkeeper with strong levels of athleticism and physicality, Peretz also has a party trick when it comes to penalties – at both ends of the pitch. As well as saving a number while at second division side Beitar Tel Aviv Bat Yam in 2019/20, he also scored two himself.
Peretz came through the youth academy at Maccabi Tel Aviv and has been first choice for the senior team in the last two years.
Born on 10 July 2000, Peretz began his career with Maccabi Tel Aviv, joining the academy at the age of six and coming through the youth system at one of Israel’s biggest clubs. The right-footer then spent a season on loan in the second division at Beitar Tel Aviv Bat Yam in 2019/20. The goalkeeper returned to his parent club for 2020/21 and settled into the first team. After a season behind Brazilian Daniel Tenenbaum, Peretz made his top-flight debut to kick off the new campaign on 29 August 2021. He went on to make the spot his own at Israel’s most decorated club, who are coached by Irishman Robbie Keane as of this season.
Maccabi and Peretz reached the play-off round of the Europa Conference league in 2021/22 thanks to a number of saves by the goalkeeper.
The 23-year-old has club experience on the continental stage from appearances in the UEFA Europa Conference League. It was partly down to his saves that Maccabi reached the play-off round in 2021/22 before defeat to PSV Eindhoven. Peretz and his team had previously come through the qualifying rounds before finishing second in the group stage. Last season they came up short against Nice in qualification for the Conference League. Now Peretz will be able to feature in the Champions League with Bayern.
Peretz made his U17 debut with Israel in 2016, before making his senior bow last November.
Peretz has been representing Israel at international level since 2016. The Tel Aviv native has since also featured for the country’s U19s and U21s. His won his first senior cap in a 3-2 friendly loss to Cyprus on 20 November 2022.
Peretz caught the eye of the footballing world at this summer’s U21 European Championships in Georgia and Romania. Israel kicked off the tournament against favourites and defending champions Germany, where the new Bayern goalkeeper emerged as man of the match with a string of saves to earn a shock 1-1 draw.

His penalty saves from both Youssoufa Moukoko and Jessic Ngankam underlined his reputation as an expert from the spot. Peretz continued his good performances throughout the tournament as Israel emerged as the surprise side, reaching the semi-finals before a 2-0 loss to eventual champions England. Peretz was unavailable to help his team that day due to suspension for accumulation of yellow cards.
