Inter's journey in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 comes to an end: the Nerazzurri are defeated by Fluminense in Charlotte. The game at the Bank of America Stadium was complicated, largely due to the pounding North Carolina heat: Fluminense played smartly with great determination, managing to break the deadlock in the 3rd minute through the Argentine Cano. The match then became all about the Nerazzurri: Inter kept pushing, and tried to react in every way possible, racking up and array of chances in the second period, also thanks to the energy substitutes. De Vrij couldn't equalise from a few yards out, then Dimarco's free kick marginally flew wide. Towards the end, Lautaro came close three times: first of all he was denied twice by Fabio, the Tricolor keeper, and then the upright stood in his way. In added time, Carlos Augusto shot over from a good position before Fluminense then sealed the win in the 93rd minute through Hercules who made it two. Dimarco then hit the bar, bringing an end to the game in which Inter were generally unlucky in front of goal. Inter's Club World Cup campaign ends as such, knocked out in the Round of 16 by Fluminense in Charlotte: the Nerazzurri's season also comes to a close after 63 games played.
