Interim President of the RFEF Pedro Rocha intends to present himself as a candidate for the permanent role when elections are called in 2024. Rocha took over from Luis Rubiales, after the disgraced ex-Levante player resigned following suspension from the position.

After a meeting of the presidents of the regional football federations on Tuesday, Rocha attempted to gather support via face-to-face meetings and via calls. But is yet to declare a stance, for fear of not yet having the necessary support.

According to Relevo, during the actual meeting itself, Rocha faced a hard questioning on audiovisual rights, finances and World Cup venues for the 2030 tournament during the actual meeting.

Amongst his potential rivals for the role are Pablo Lozano (Andalusia), Paco Diez (Madrid) and Salvador Gomar (Valencia). As things stand, Rocha is the standout candidate, but clearly it is not a sure thing either.

It would be no surprise if the World Cup venues played a crucial part in the elections. Each regional president will be advocating for their premier stadiums to grab the final spots that remain undecided. For Rocha and any other candidates, that could play a crucial role in negotiating support.
