Inter Milan Won’t Offload Out-Of-Favour Midfielder In January For Free – Despite Cagliari, Genoa & Salernitana Interest | OneFootball

Inter Milan have no plans to offload midfielder Stefano Sensi in January for free, despite interest from Cagliari, Genoa, and Salernitana.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.

Sensi has been an Inter player for the first few months of the current season.

That hadn’t necessarily been what many expected before the campaign began.

But in the end Inter decided to keep Sensi in their squad.

There were a couple reasons for this. First of all is the fact that Inter’s failed pursuit of Lazar Samardzic left the club light in midfield.

Therefore, the Nerazzurri needed an extra midfielder for depth.

And the investment in the signing of defender Benjamin Pavard from Bayern Munich meant that there wasn’t a great deal available to spent in the position.

Davy Klaassen did arrive from Ajax. The former Everton man came on a free transfer.

But Sensi also stayed in the squad.

Moreover, there was not necessarily much interest in Sensi’s signature.

The former Sassuolo midfielder returned to Inter from a one-season loan with Monza. The Brianzoli declined the option to make his deal permanent.

And no club sealed a deal for the 28-year-old’s signature in the summer.

So Inter kept him around.

Inter Won’t Let Stefano Sensi Go For Free In January

So far this season, Sensi has played a fairly marginal role for Inter.

This comes as little surprise.

However, the Italian international has not gone altogether unused. Sensi has made a handful of substitute appearances, most recently against Frosinone before the international break.

There have been some suggestions that Sensi could however depart in the January transfer window.

The midfielder could look for more playing time. And Inter could clear space on the wage bill.

According to Tuttosport all of Cagliari, Genoa, and Salernitana consider Sensi, who had also spent the second half of the 2020-21 campaign on loan with Sampdoria, a target.

But they will have to pay to get him, the newspaper reports.

Even though Sensi is a fairly peripheral figure in the Inter project – including being out of the Champions League squad – the Nerazzurri have no intention of releasing him from his contract six months early.

On the other hand, if a team were to offer a fee for Sensi it would be a different story.

Inter would hardly expect a large fee. Not least considering that Sensi’s contract runs out at the end of next June.

But there will still need to be a fee on offer.

And, Tuttosport report, Inter would reinvest that fee by putting it towards a January signing, as well as opening up space on their wage bill by offloading Sensi’s roughly €2 million net per season salary.

The Nerazzurri would target either a striker or a right-wingback to replace Juan Cuadrado.
