Inter Milan will increase the wages of captain and striker Lautaro Martinez to almost €10 million net per season on a new contract.

This according to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews. The broadcaster report that the Nerazzurri are aiming to extend the 26-year-old’s deal until the end of June 2028.

At the moment, midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu is Inter’s top-earning player.

The Turkish international signed a new contract until the end of June 2027 during the summer.

And Calhanoglu received a wage increase to reflect his increased importance to the team.

However, the former AC Milan’s status as the top earner in the squad will not last for long.

Indeed, Inter are pushing to agree a new contract with their captain Martinez. And once the Argentine puts pen to paper, he could become the team’s top earner by some ways.

Lautaro Martinez To Become Inter’s Top Earner With Almost €10M Net/Season

While Calhanoglu earns around €6.5 million net per season at the moment – slightly more than Martinez – it always looked inevitable that Martinez will out-earn the Turkish international if and when he signs a new deal.

But according to Mediaset, Martinez will become Inter’s top earner by a large margin.

The broadcaster Anticipates that the Nerazzurri are ready to offer the World Cup winner wages in the region of €10 million net per season.

This would be a reflection of the fact that Martinez is now an absolutely central player to the Nerazzurri’s squad in all respects.

The 26-year-old inherited the captain’s armband from Samir Handanovic during the summer.

And he has responded by scoring twelve goals already. This means that Martinez is now well on track to be Inter’s top scorer for the third season in a row.

There is also Martinez’s leadership on and off the pitch.

This naturally has a lot to do with the fact that the Nerazzurri gave the striker the armband during the summer.

And Martinez has also shown loyalty to Inter over the years. There has been no lack of interest in the Argentine from other big European clubs.

There has also been persistent transfer interest in Martinez. The likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur have all targeted the Inter striker in the past couple transfer windows.

Barcelona and Manchester City have also chased Martinez during his time at the Nerazzurri.

But Martinez has always remained at the Nerazzurri, where he is by all accounts happy.

At the moment, Martinez’s deal runs until the end of June 2026.

But Mediaset report that Inter want to hand the Argentine a new five-year deal, until the end of June 2028.
