Nicolo Barella and Tajon Buchanan have trained partially with the rest of the Inter Milan squad ahead of Sunday’s Serie A blockbuster against Roma.
According to Sky Sport, as reported by FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri duo are back in training after lengthy spells on the sidelines.
25-year-old Buchanan has been out since the summer.
Just as he started to show glimpses of his potential at Giuseppe Meazza, the Canadian wingback suffered a devastating injury.
Buchanan was away on international duty with Canada when he suffered a broken tibia while training for the quarterfinal match against Venezuela.
That did not only prevent him from helping his country at the 2024 Copa America but hindered his return to Inter.
Meanwhile, Barella slumped to an ankle problem during September’s Derby della Madonnina.
It has taken the diminutive midfielder almost a month to recover.
But he’s now on the verge of returning to action.
Indeed, the 27-year-old couldn’t have timed his recovery any better.
Inter enjoyed an uptick in form before October’s international break.
Even without Barella, Simone Inzaghi’s men racked up a three-match winning streak in all competitions.
Back-to-back league wins against Torino and Udinese propelled the Nerazzurri to second in the Serie A table.
With only two points separating them from early pacesetters Napoli, Sunday’s game against Roma has all the makings of a must-win clash.
Therefore, having Barella and Buchanan fit again can only encourage Inzaghi.
The former has a special place at Giuseppe Meazza.
He’s been Inter’s driving force in the midfield, a beating heart of Inzaghi’s star-studded engine room.
As for the latter, he could challenge Matteo Darmian and Denzel Dumfries for a starting berth upon his long-awaited return.
