Inter Milan star Piotr Zielinski has revealed that his signature was actively sought out by La Liga giants Barcelona, during his time on the books of Napoli.
Polish international Zielinski, for his part, was on the move this past summer, when he allowed his terms with Napoli to expire, in favour of linking up with Scudetto holders Inter.
As alluded to above, though, had things panned out differently, the attacking midfielder could have found himself plying his trade in Spain.
Speaking during an interview with Foot Truck, as cited by Mundo Deportivo, on Saturday, Zielinski admitted that he found himself in the sights of Barcelona back in the summer of 2020.
Not only that, but the Blaugrana went as far as to table a somewhat bizarre offer for his services.
According to the player himself, the Camp Nou brass proposed sending a number of the club’s leading academy talents to Naples, in exchange for Zielinski.
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis, however, rejected the offer out of hand:
“Barcelona proposed a swap with two or three players from La Masia, but the president Aurelio De Laurentiis did not want to accept it. He preferred me.”
