Inter Milan reach agreement with Edin Dzeko over new contract | OneFootball

Eden Dzeko is set to remain at Inter Milan beyond this summer after reaching an agreement with the club over a contract extension.

According to Gazzetta, the 37-year-old has agreed to extend his contract by one more year, keeping him at San Siro Stadium until the end of next season.

Both parties have been locked in negotiations in recent months, with the former AS Roma man previously holding out for a two-year contract.

However, Dzeko has compromised and agreed to a one-year deal that will see him take a pay cut, with the striker set to earn €5 million, which is lower than his previous €6m a year salary.

Inter were keen to hang on to Dzeko beyond this summer, with the Bosnian’s experience proving invaluable to their ambitions this season.

The former Manchester City striker has notched 14 goals while assisting five in 47 appearances across all competitions this term, playing his part in Inter top four push.

Having struggled for much of the campaign, Simone Inzaghi’s side have turned a corner with the 2022/23 campaign in its home stretch.

The Nerazzurri have won their last six games in a row across all competitions for the first time this season and are on course to finish in the Champions League places.

They have also booked a place in the Coppa Italia final after edging last season’s finalists, Juventus, in the semi-final round, setting up a finale against Fiorentina in Rome.

Inter also have one foot in the Champions League final after securing a comfortable 2-0 first-leg victory over fierce rivals AC Milan, thanks in part to Dzeko, who opened the scoring.

The veteran striker continues to prove his worth to the Inter hierarchy, who have been impressed enough with his performances to award him an extended deal.

Dzeko will hope to continue his impressive form when Inzaghi’s side welcomes Sassuolo to San Siro on Saturday, looking to consolidate their place in the top four.
