Inter Milan president Steven Zhang remains proud of his club’s achievement and perceives a bright future despite the recent European letdown.
The Nerazzurri were planning to replicate last season’s success by going far in the Champions League. But instead, they couldn’t get past the Atletico Madrid hurdle.
The Italians squandered a two-goal lead on aggregate and were eventually eliminated on penalties.
Aside from the sporting disappointment, the relatively early elimination will also prove costly on the balance sheet.
Between UCL prize money and matchday revenues, the club will miss out on at least 20 million euros.
Nevertheless, La Gazzetta dello Sport (via FcInterNews) believes that Zhang remains upbeat.
As the source explains, the Inter president still feels that his club is on the right track and that the European exit doesn’t undo all the progress made in recent years.
So while the Chinese businessman isn’t completely satisfied, he remains proud of the club’s achievement. This is a sentiment that he shares with head coach Simone Inzaghi.
Zhang now expects the team to show its mettle in the final ten rounds of Serie A by securing the Scudetto as rapidly as possible.
As for next season, the club president intends to keep the bar high. He expects the squad to further improve and compete for both domestic and European honors. |
Inter’s first chance to display a positive reaction will be this Sunday. They will host last season’s champions Napoli in a league showdown at San Siro.
