Inzaghi is approaching the end of his third season as Inter coach.

By the standards of being on the Nerazzurri bench, that is quite a long time. Even the likes of Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte lasted just two seasons.

And in modern football more generally, coaches often have spells of just a few months or a year at top clubs.

So Inzaghi’s reign has already been a reasonably long one.

Not least considering that the 48-year-old is hardly showing any signs of wanting to leave in the near future.

Sandro Mazzola: Hope Simone Inzaghi Can The Become Sir Alex Ferguson Of Inter Milan

One coach who had an epic association with a single club was Alex Ferguson. The Scottish manager spent nearly three decades at the helm of Manchester United.

By comparison to a reign of that length, Inzaghi’s time at Inter is truly still in its infancy.

Mazzola noted that “The real strength of this Inter team is the group they have.”

“Maybe Inzaghi could even become like the Alex Ferguson of Inter, hopefully,” Mazzola continued.

The former striker went on that “I’m a big fan of Lautaro.”

“Now that he has the armband, I see him as being a leader within the group, and not just on the pitch with his performances.”

“If Inter really want to be at the level of Inter, they will certainly refuse all offers for him and extend his contract immediately,” Mazzola said of Inter’s team.

“I’d say the same thing about other key players in this squad.”

Meanwhile, Mazzola also spoke about striker Marcus Thuram. “I didn’t expect him to be so incisive right away,” he said of the Frenchman.

“Then after the first time I saw him play, I said to myself: Wow, this is a really top player!”

Lastly, Mazzola gave his thoughts on midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu.

“It’s difficult for me to see Milan players go on to wear the Inter shirt,” he admitted. “But Calhanoglu is one of the exceptions, and he’s proving to be a vital player to the team.”
