Inter Milan and Juventus are disappointed that the expanded Supercoppa Italiana format will remain in 2025.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

In the past, the Supercoppa has normally been a one-off match.

The competition has been contested between the previous team’s Serie A winners, and Supercoppa Italiana winners.

Then, should one team have won both competitions the prior campaign, the beaten Coppa Italia finalists would appear in the Supercoppa.

This time around, things were a bit different though.

The competition expanded to a four-team mini-tournament similar to the Spanish Super Cup.

This meant that there were places for all of the Serie A winners and runners-up, and both finalists from the Coppa Italia.

This season, Inter beat Lazio and Napoli to win the Supercoppa. Fiorentina also participated as last season’s beaten Coppa Italia finalists.

Yesterday, the Lega Serie A assembly met. As part of the agenda, there was a vote on whether or not to keep the expanded four-team Supercoppa format for next season.

Inter and Juventus had both been against keeping it in that format.

The Nerazzurri and the Bianconeri had hoped that next season would see a return to the Supercoppa being a one-off match.

The two clubs see the fixture list as already growing to a degree that is placing excessive demands on teams.

This includes an expansion of the Champions League. Then, there is the expanded Club World Cup next season. Both of the Nerazzurri and the Bianconeri will be participating.

Therefore, the Corriere report, there is disappointment on the part of both Inter and Juventus.

Both of the two Italian giants face the prospect of yet more time on the pitch, travel, and having to cope virtually without getting a week off to rest between matches.
