Inter Milan reportedly consider RB Salzburg defender Oumar Solet as a backup option in case they miss out on Atletico Madrid star Mario Hermoso.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, signing the Spanish defender remains the priority for the Nerazzurri.

Hermoso is currently running on an expiring contract, so he’ll be leaving Diego Simeone’s court at the end of the season.

Therefore, Inter are hoping to strike an agreement with his entourage to bring him on a free transfer next summer.

But the problem for the Nerazzurri is that the Spaniard’s contractual situation has attracted a host of other suitors. This includes Premier League duo Newcastle and Aston Villa, as well as Napoli and Saudi Pro League clubs.

Therefore, Inter continue to monitor other options for the backline. Their shortlist also features Bayern Munich’s Kim Min-jae, Roma veteran Chris Smalling and West Ham’s Konstantinos Mavropanos.

But as the pink newspaper notes, the Serie A leaders have also revived their interest in Solet. Inter directors Piero Auslio and Dario Baccin have even scouted him in the past. He also played against Inzaghi’s men in the Champions League group stage.

The 24-year-old has been sharpening his tools at Salzburg since 2020. Last season, the Austrian giants requested 20 million euros to part ways with him. This figure dropped to 13M when Napoli came knocking in January.

But with the Frenchman’s contract expiring in 2025, Inter may be able to strike a deal with Salzburg for just 10 million euros.
