Inter coach Simone Inzaghi feels that even though the team are dealing with some very bad form in Serie A recently, they cannot be distracted by it in tomorrow’s Champions League match against Benfica.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset ahead of tomorrow’s match, via FCInterNews, the 47-year-old stressed that all of the Nerazzurri’s focus is on tomorrow’s quarterfinal second leg clash at the San Siro.
If Inter had hoped that they would be sailing along in the league so that they could keep an eye on their Champions League knockout run without too much worry, they’ll certainly be disappointed by what’s actually transpired.
Just as the Nerazzurri look to go deep into this season’s Champions League, they find that their path to qualifying for next season’s edition is becoming more complicated in the league.
However, for his part Inzaghi feels no doubt that the team are totally focused on what they have to do tomorrow.
“We know that tomorrow we have the second half of a very important match for us,” the coach noted, “we start with an advantage from the first half, but we’ll still have to play our game, always focused and with intensity.”
He added that “We’ll have to cover every inch of the field, running as a united.”
“We know the quality of the team who are coming to face us at the Meazza,” Inzaghi said of this formidable Benfica side, who have already beaten Juventus and drawn with Paris Saint-Germain twice.
Of the need to bounce back from the team’s dreadful form in Serie A recently, Inzaghi gave the view that “Now it’s useless to sit here and think about the past, we know we’re not in good form in the league but we need to focus on tomorrow night, on Benfica, on this opportunity to reach the last four which would be a huge achievement.”
