Manchester City and Inter Milan have handed Chelsea the most favourable chance to win the Club World Cup, or at least get to the final!

Chelsea beat Benfica in the first set of knockout rounds in the Club World Cup on Saturday night, but it was far from easy and also, very far from drama!

Sources: Chelsea still looking to sign West Ham star despite agreeing deal to bring Joao Pedro in!

Enzo Maresca labelled it a joke that the game got suspended for two hours due to sever weather conditions and slammed the tournament location as a result, and he really does have a point here.

And then came a flurry of late goal with Benfica equalising deep into stoppage time through a penalty to send it into extra time. Chelsea then bagged a bunch of goals to go on and win the game before it got to penalties!

Palmeiras next up

Of course, there are no easy games in these competitions and many potential banana skins, but Chelsea have a favourable game against Palmeiras up next at the weekend and if they win that, they have now avoided meeting some of the big oppositions.

So the quarter finals are Brazilian opposition for Chelsea and a very good chance of grabbing the win and advancing, then after that….

More favourable ties

Due to Al-Hilal beating Manchester City 4-3 overnight, and Fluminense beating Inter Milan, should Chelsea advance to the semi-finals, then they would face one of Al-Hilal or Fluminense.

So although none of these games will be easy for Chelsea, I am sure they would rather face one of these teams than a City or an Inter for example. So you can only say that this is a much more favourable run to the final at least for Chelsea now.
