Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi will be hoping that the return of captain Lautaro Martinez to scoring the attack against Atalanta.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Inter captain Martinez had a very up-and-down 2024.
The Argentine ended last season as Serie A’s top scorer, powering Inter to the title in his first season as captain.
Meanwhile, Martinez was also the top scorer at the Copa America as Argentine won the competition.
However, over the second half of the year there was a real slowdown from the Inter captain.
Martinez was unable to replicate last season’s scoring form over the first half of this campaign. Or even come close.
Against Cagliari, however, Martinez finally broke his goal drought.
The 27-year-old’s goal against the Rossoblu in Inter’s final match of 2024 could be a very good omen to set the tone for 2025.
Against Atalanta this evening, there is certainly no doubt that Martinez will start.
Nerazzurri coach Inzaghi wants his strongest possible starting eleven as Inter fight for a place in the Supercoppa Italiana.
That will mean that Martinez starts. The Argentine will start alongside Marcus Thuram, who’s been scoring prolifically this season.
And the hope of Inzaghi is that he can have both of his strikers at their absolute best.
