Lautaro Martinez remains anything but certain to stay at Inter, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As per Tuttosport’s print edition, the Nerazzurri might need to sell a key player in the summer in order to balance their books, albeit it remains unclear if this is necessary.

Lautaro is widely thought to have interest from clubs around Europe and ‘all the clues’ would point to him being the chosen sacrifice.

This is despite reports elsewhere today suggesting that Inter did not intend to sell El Toro and would soon finalise a new three-year deal for the striker.

Inter will reportedly need ‘at least four signings’ in the summer, the Turin-based paper continued, and they would be a left wing-back, two strikers and a goalkeeper to compete with Samir Handanovic.

The Nerazzurri’s transfer campaign is one of several issues that will be discussed when Suning meet with Antonio Conte at the end of the season.

Conte will be told during those talks that Inter’s objectives for the summer are to balance the books with sales, self-finance any signings and reduce the club’s wage bill.

Suning will ask Conte to make it out of the UEFA Champions League group stage, after three early exits in three seasons (one of which was with Luciano Spalletti in charge).

Conte’s future will depend on how he responds to that information but also his salary, the degree of clarity he receives on Inter’s targets for next season and whether he has suitors elsewhere.
