Antonio Conte has urged Inter’s players to keep their feet on the gas right until the end of the season.

Inter were confirmed as Serie A champions two weekends ago with four games to spare, ending the club’s 10-year wait for a major trophy.

Conte’s pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow’s match against Roma was cancelled, but he did speak to Inter TV to preview the fixture with the Giallorossi.

“It’s only right to honour our league title in the best way possible, trying to play with great professionalism,” Inter’s head coach explained.

“We need to have the idea of winning fixed in our brain.

“There are three games left against important teams (Roma, Juventus and Udinese), we want to honour the scudetto and give our best.”

Roma have held Inter to three draws in three games since Conte was appointed by the Nerazzurri in 2019, most recently rescuing a point in a 2-2 draw at the Stadio Olimpico in January.

Asked what kind of opponent he expected for Inter, Conte argued: “They’re a great team who want to finish the season well.

“Roma will play the derby after facing us, they have no intention of giving up and coming to San Siro for a friendly kick-about.

“We played an excellent match in Rome, but we were disappointed to be pegged back at the end from a corner where we weren’t entirely ready and they were clever to take it quickly.

“They’re a great team with a great coach, so we’re expecting a good match.”

Inter showed no sign of lowering their guard on Saturday when they thrashed Sampdoria 5-1 at San Siro, in their first game since being confirmed as champions.

“The aim is to always give our best and stay concentrated for 90 minutes plus added time,” Conte insisted.

“I think they did really, really well against Sampdoria and I congratulated them for that.

“I saw some excellent moves and situations we’d tried in training; despite several changes to the side we put in a great performance and got a great result.

“These guys have great professionalism.”

Conte is proud of how far his players have come since his arrival two years ago, but he encouraged them to stay hungry and keep pushing until the season was finished.

“When you achieve results, the numbers always tell you something,” he added.

“Our numbers are positive in the second half of this season in particular, we did really good things.

“We need to continue right until the end of this season and try to improve.

“We had the league’s best defence and the second-best attack last season, this year we have the best defence and the second attack again.

“We want to try and obtain the maximum in terms of our numbers as well.”
