Napoli are considering a move for Danish striker Rasmus Hojlund, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.
Despite having already signed Lorenzo Lucca from Udinese, the Serie A champions are in the market for a new striker as they aim to cope with the absence of Romelu Lukaku.
Lukaku, who bagged 14 times and 11 assists last season, is set to be sidelined for several months following an injury sustained in a pre-season friendly against Olympiacos.
Hojlund has attracted interest from multiple Serie A clubs this summer, including Inter Milan and AC Milan.
His time at Old Trafford has been marked by inconsistency, and he has fallen down the pecking order after the club signed Benjamin Sesko.
United are willing to offload Hojlund for around £40 million and prefer a permanent deal or a loan with an obligation to buy.
Discussions between Napoli and Manchester United are reportedly underway, although AC Milan remain in the mix.
Hojlund was left out of United’s matchday squad for Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal but is believed to be keen on fighting for his place.
However, the striker is likely to leave before the summer transfer window ends, and Napoli are firmly interested in securing his services.
Antonio Conte’s side will kick off their title defence with a clash against Sassuolo on Saturday before playing host to Cagliari in their first home assignment of the season.
