Mikel Arteta spoke to the media on Friday ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League opener away to Manchester United this weekend, and the Gunners manager had good news on a couple of members of his squad.

Leandro Trossard sat out Arsenal’s last two pre-season friendlies against Villarreal and Athletic Club, but Arteta has suggested the winger should be fit for Sunday’s match.

“Yeah, I think he’s much better,” Arteta said. “I think he will be able to train again tomorrow, and if that’s the case, he will be fit (for United).”

Another minor concern during the week was around Martin Zubimendi. Though the midfield summer signing has looked like an excellent addition in pre-season, the Spaniard was the only player not involved in Arsenal’s media day earlier this week.

That raised some worries among supporters, but Arteta has insisted Zubimendi will also be fit for the United game.

“Yes, he had a great integration (during pre-season), a very big impact, and he will be fit,” Arteta clarified.

With Riccardo Calafiori and Kai Havertz both returning to the pitch in Arsenal’s final pre-season friendly, Trossard’s comeback should mean Gabriel Jesus is the club’s only unavailable senior player.

Jesus has recently returned to individual training on the grass, but he’s a way off a full comeback from his ACL injury.
