Frenkie de Jong has endured a difficult season at Barcelona this season, with his progress being largely marred by injuries.

After suffering with an ankle problem earlier in the campaign, de Jong picked up yet another knock in the recent game against Real Madrid.

Shortly after his injury, it was reported that the Dutchman could be out for a period of up to six weeks.

Frenkie de Jong to return after Euros

A recent report from Diario SPORT has offered a fresh update on de Jong’s fitness, suggesting that he should return for the upcoming European Championship.

As per the report, de Jong’s first game after returning from injury could be on June 16 against Poland, where he might take on his Barcelona teammate Robert Lewandowski.

However, there is a possibility of de Jong returning to action even before the Poland game. In any case, the Dutchman is likely to be available for the European Championship, which could serve as a major boost for KNVB.

An important summer ahead?

While de Jong’s return date could serve as a sigh of relief for Dutch fans, the player, for his part, is anticipating an important summer.

Apart from Euro 2024, de Jong will have to make a crucial decision on his future. He is, after all, one of few Barcelona stars linked with a potential move away from Camp Nou this summer.

Barcelona’s economic downturn means they might have to offload one of their star players in the coming summer, with de Jong emerging as one of the likeliest candidates.

In the meantime, though, the Dutchman would like to focus on his recovery and playing for the Netherlands in Euro 2024.
