The India women's Under-17 side suffered yet another loss in their last game of the of the 6th Torneo Female Football Tournament in Vilesse, Italy on Sunday, June 26, 2022 - this time at the hands of Mexico.
India went into the game on the back of a 1-3 loss to Chile and started on the backfoot with Mexico taking the lead as early as the 14th minute with Katherin Sillas scoring the opening goal via a rebound after India goalkeeper, Melody Chanu had saved the initial effort.
The Young Tigresses looked to attack more in the second half but nothing came out of it, with India head coach Thomas Dennerby throwing caution to the winds by making a double substitution to bring on Misha Bhandari and Pinku Devi in place of Naketa and Nitu Linda, with just a few minutes left on the clock in a desperate effort to score the equaliser.
However, Mexico soon scored in the third minute of added time through Alice Gallegos to secure the victory.
India have struggled in the four-nation tournament, losing all their three games, conceding 12 goals while scoring only one in the process. While the tournament was seen as preparation for the upcoming Under-17 Women's World Cup - Dennerby should be worried at the lack of bite and steel shown by his charges in Italy.
