Ecuador made it through the group stages but got knocked out by eventual winners Argentina on penalties in the quarter finals.

Caicedo finished the season strongly and took his form onto the international stage and picked up two Man of the Match awards in three group stage games.

The 22-year-old was at his combative best at the tournament and according to Who Scored no player made more interceptions at the tournament than the Ecuadorian with ten.

Caicedo initially struggled following his British record move from Brighton last summer, but he found his feet over the second half of the season, and is set to have a key role under Enzo Maresca next season, with the Blues desperate to get back into the Champions League.

Chelsea will hoping that Caicedo can really flourish next season and build a successful midfield partnership with Enzo Fernandez.
