Robert Sanchez has been announced as a new Chelsea player today, brought in as competition for Kepa in goal.

But if you were to look purely at the stats, you would see there is no competition.

Last season Kepa kept more clean sheet, had a better save percentage and a better passing accuracy, and made ewer error leading to goals.

The only area Sanchez wins in is goals conceded – and that’s because he only played 23 games rather than 29. There is more to football than stats, and that’s especially true with goalkeepers, but you can see why lots of fans aren’t too excited by this.
