Reece James scored a stunning freekick against Latvia on Monday night, but Lee Dixon has questioned his lack of celebration.

James’ freekick, his first goal for the Three Lions on his first start for the national team in two and half years gave England the lead.

Harry Kane and Eberechi Eze added goals in the second half to give England a comfortable 3-0 win and make it two wins from two under new boss Thomas Tuchel.

Dixon questions lack of celebration from James

James, starting in his natural right back position was named man of the match, and Roy Keane compared his freekick to how former England captain David Beckham used to take them.

Scoring your first goal for your country is a huge career moment, let alone a goal that amazing and you would have expected James to really celebrate.

However, the 25-year-old seemed to just shrug it off as his team-mates congratulated him, with Dixon left questioning whether there was a deeper meaning behind it.

“I’m not too sure about his celebration, if I’d scored a goal like that I’d still be running round Wembley, absolutely top drawer, it’s a dreamboat goal,” he said on commentary for ITV.

“I don’t know whether there’s anything in that celebration, or lack of, but he’ll be enjoying it on the inside.”

James will no doubt take confidence from his performance ahead of a crucial end to the season for the Blues as they aim to secure Champions League qualification and win the Conference League.

Enzo Maresca has deployed James in midfield in recent weeks, although with Romeo Lavia now fit again you would expect the England international to revert back to his natural right back position.

James has once again been plagued by injury issues this season, but it looks like he’s put that behind him and he’s already managed more appearances than he did during the last campaign, and will have a key role to play in the final sprint to the finish.
