New Bayer Leverkusen signing Aleix García has on Sunday spoken out over the rumoured interest of Barcelona in his signature.

The name of midfielder García, at one point in the not-so-distant past, of course took its place front and centre in the headlines in Barcelona.

As much came amid widespread claims that the Girona star was being eyed up by his side’s Catalan neighbours, amid their ongoing search for reinforcements in the middle of the park.

When all was said and done, García, as alluded to above, opted to take his talents to Germany with Bayer Leverkusen, in a deal with the potential to rise to €20 million.

Speaking in an interview with Diari de Girona this weekend, the subject of the circumstances surrounding his eventual Bundesliga switch, in turn, were inevitably put to the Spanish international himself.

And García, whilst discussing as much, went on to provide an insight into the efforts of both Premier League outfit West Ham United, and the aforementioned Barcelona, to bring him in:

“There was one from West Ham. They were the only ones. If I had waited longer, maybe I could have received another one. I considered Bayer’s offer the best, because of the coach and the style of play. Playing in the Champions League was a big factor too.”

The 27-year-old continued:

“Actually, there were conversations between my agent and their sporting director [Deco]. Perhaps it didn’t go any further because Barça’s situation did not allow it. If they had wanted to come and sign me, they would have come. I don’t think about it at all.”
