Yesterday threw up a surprise regarding transfer speculation when Kyogo was linked with a move to EPL champions Man City, with The Celtic Star being first to report on the story earlier yesterday morning.

Details of the bid and how close it is remain unclear at the moment, but it’s believed to be have some substance to it, with some credible sources reporting on it.

Celtic are believed to value Kyogo at £20 million minimum, and rightly so. If Man City are prepared to offer such a figure then it’s going to a big decision for the club hierarchy.

On the face of it, accepting £20 million for a 29 year old with a recurring shoulder problem seems like a straightforward decision, but Kyogo is worth much more to the club by what he does for us on the park.

He’s been instrumental for the side since his arrival in 2021. His goals have won us trophies and he truly is a big game player. Think about his double that clinched the league cup over Hibs in 2021.

Or his brace that clinched the same trophy against theRangers just over a year later. All his Derby goals, his European goals. He’s such a vital player, and a wonderful asset to have in the Celtic team. And remember his record against theRangers in particular has been sensational, it’s hard to think of a player with a better return in the same number of games against either Rangers outfit.

Is it really worth selling him to make a quick buck? I know it’s also down to the player himself also, but the club should be doing all they can to keep him. No matter how tough that may prove.

However Kyogo being offered, literally the chance of a lifetime, to play for one of the top teams in European football, for arguably the best manager on the continent, in the highest profile league in the world. If Celtic deny him the opportunity then how does he react to that and pick himself up from the disappointment of being prevented from playing for one of the top teams in world football?

Maybe that will be the deciding factor, if Man City are prepared to pay the asking price? And if it is going to happen then the sooner the better as Brendan will need as much time as possible before the window shuts to bring in a replacement.
