Konstantinos Karetsas made his international debut for the Greek national team yesterday evening against Scotland. The 17-year-old, who was also pursued by the Belgian Red Devils, instead decided to represent Greece. The young Genk midfielder came on at half-time and immediately showcased his talents, although he was unable to help his side overturn a 1-0 deficit as they head to Glasgow for the second.
As reported by HBVL, Karetsas was clearly happy with his choice to represent Greece over Belgium. Speaking after the match the teenager said ‘If I had played for the Red Devils, I would always regret that I would never be able to play for Greece‘. He then went on to say that ‘I feel really Greek’. His choice may well have been further vindicated after the Belgian side lost their first game under head coach Rudi Garcia. Ukraine ran out 3-1 winners in the first leg of the UEFA Nations League A qualifier.
Both Greece and Belgium will be looking to overturn deficits at the weekend. Following his debut, Greek fans will likely be hoping to see more of Karetsas when the side travel to Glasgow.
