Former Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha has insisted that Sporting Lisbon coach Ruben Amorim is not too young to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

The Reds are insistent , but Amorim is considered the favourite to become the next Liverpool manager.

The 39-year-old has also played down the rumours and has claimed that he has had no offer from any club as he focuses on winning the league with Sporting Lisbon this season.

There are concerns that Amorim is still too young and has not proven himself at the top level yet, but he has been backed by a countryman with experience of the British game.

Caixinha had a spell at another giant in the shape of Rangers and stressed that Amorim definitely has the experience and the football knowledge to become the next Reds manager.

He also pointed out that Amorim won the Portuguese top flight the first time when he was not even a licensed coach.

The former Rangers boss told Portuguese news outlet Bola Na Rede: “Ruben Amorim is ready for Liverpool and I think he is not young.

“He has maturity, football experience, knowledge and preparation.

“He talked a lot about preparation, not having the Pro course and being on the bench.

“He was, if I’m not mistaken, the only national champion who later finished UEFA Pro and, as far as I know, he did it with the same humility and naturalness.”

Amorim’s departure from Sporting Lisbon is reportedly expected to be announced after the final game of the season.

If he does move into British football, he will hope to have more success than Caixinha, who flopped as Rangers boss.
