Idrissa Gueye has turned down the opportunity to join Nottingham Forest as he wants to seal a transfer return to Everton, according to Foot Mercato.

The 32-year-old, who joined Paris Saint-Germain in July 2019 in a £30 million deal, is currently deemed surplus to requirements at Parc des Princes.

The Parisians have already signed Vitinha and Renato Sanches while they are also being heavily linked with a move for Napoli star Fabian Ruiz. Gueye’s first-team prospects at PSG look very slim this season.

However, the Senegal international isn’t keen to join any club as he snubbed newly-promoted Premier League outfit Forest.

The 32-year-old wants a return to Goodison Park where he played between 2016 and 2019.

Unlikely to make a huge impact

Gueye was a huge fan favourite during his three-year spell at the Toffees. He was a regular at Goodison Park and was highly impressive with his performances.

The energetic midfielder made 108 appearances across all competitions, bagging four goals and five assists (stats from Transfermarkt).

The Toffees bought him for a reported £7.1m fee but made a huge profit when they sold him to PSG for an incredible £30m.

Gueye is known for his tackling and passing as well as his ability to press opponents and intercept passes.

However, it is doubtful whether he can make the same impact at Goodison Park now as he will turn 33 next month.

Everton have only signed James Tarkowski and Dwight McNeil in this transfer window. They are reportedly very close to adding Amadou Onana from Lille in a £33.5m deal.
