It's been a difficult first season at Derby County for midfielder Tyrese Fornah, and with the Rams winning promotion to the Championship, it looks as if he'll find it difficult to break into the squad next season.

The 24-year-old joined Derby from bitter rivals Nottingham Forest, but he's struggled to put a consistent run of games together, and he hasn't been helped by injuries either.

The Sierra Leone international midfielder has played Championship football before, thanks to a spell on loan with Reading during the 2022/23 season, but after struggling for minutes at League One level with Derby, it seems unlikely he'll be a regular in Paul Warne's Championship side.

With a contract at Pride Park until the summer of 2025, Derby face a bit of a dilemma this summer, and it remains to be seen if Fornah will still be a Rams player come September.

Derby County urged to loan out Tyrese Fornah

Despite minimal playing time this season, Football League World's Derby County fan pundit, Shaun, believes the club shouldn't sell Tyrese Fornah this summer, as he could come in handy in upcoming seasons, particularly if the club were to get relegated from the Championship.

Shaun said: “I think Tyrese Fornah was a bit raw, and didn’t really develop how we thought he would. I know he had a few injury problems as well, which didn’t help.

“I’d send him out on loan for a season, and I don’t want to sound negative, but we don’t know what league we’ll be in next season. I’m hoping that we can consolidate in the Championship, then push on again, but if we did struggle, he could be a good player for us in League One after a year of having more experience out on loan.

“I probably wouldn’t get rid of him for now, but if we become a permanent team in the Championship or push on for the Premier League in the next couple of years, then I don’t think he’d be what we need moving forward, but I’d keep him for another season and potentially put him out on loan.”

Tyrese Fornah needs a season playing regular football under his belt

Tyrese Fornah is 24 years old, but has only played 132 games of senior football, which isn't very many compared to most players his age.

44 of those appearances came out on loan with Plymouth Argyle during the 2020/21 season, which is a while ago now, and he needs another one of those sorts of seasons next year.

A full season of playing regular football in League One would be hugely beneficial to Fornah, and it could benefit Derby in the long run too, as if he played well he could force his way back into Paul Warne's plans in the future.

Fornah's move to Pride Park hasn't gone to plan yet, and a season away from Derby County on loan could do him the world of good at this stage of his career.
