Last season, Florian Wirtz was honoured with the Bundesliga Player of the Year award after a phenomenal season at Bayer Leverkusen, overseeing the club’s first-ever German championship.
Despite rumours regarding a possible exit from the BayArena this summer, it has always appeared as though 2025 would be the year that the 21-year-old would depart Die Werkself.
With interest from Manchester City and Real Madrid, Wirtz is not lacking in suitors from European football’s elite clubs.
However, one destination is becoming more inevitable than the rest, and that is a move to Bayern Munich.
Der Rekordmeister have been attempting to court the midfielder for a number of seasons now, and they are preparing to make their move next summer.
The ultimate aim for Bayern is to link Wirtz up with his German teammate Jamal Musiala, an idea that the head coach of Die Nationalmannschaft Julian Nagelsmann can imagine happening.
“I can imagine that, but it will be very expensive. Flo’s contract in Leverkusen was made by Rudi (Völler). Who knows, maybe Jamal will go to Leverkusen too. Either way, it will be expensive to bring the two together at club level.”
It has recently been reported that the estimated cost of tying Musiala down to a new long-term deal, as well as luring Wirtz to Bavaria, would be around €300 million for Bayern.
Nevertheless, it is a cost it appears the record champions are willing to make, having already begun their efforts in trimming down their squad.
Should “Wusiala” become a reality at the Allianz Arena, would there be any stopping Der Rekordmeister in the Bundesliga?
