Hull City have confirmed the appointment of Sergej Jakirovic as their new head coach on a two-year deal, with the option to extend for another season.
The 48-year-old Bosnian takes over after a brief stint in charge of Turkish Super Lig side Kayserispor.
Having only taken the reins at Kayserispor in January, Hull had to pay compensation to secure his release from the remainder of his contract.
His appointment brings an end to a lengthy search for a new boss, allowing the Tigers to move forward with plans to reshape the squad after a turbulent 2024/25 season in which they narrowly avoided relegation on the final day, staying up on goal difference.
Ruben Selles was dismissed on 15 May following that disappointing run, but it’s taken several weeks for the club to secure Jakirovic’s services.
Jakirovic boasts experience across several European leagues, having coached in Bosnia, Slovenia and Croatia. His biggest success came with Dinamo Zagreb, leading them to both the Croatian league title and cup in 2023/24.
