Huddersfield Town boss Mark Fotheringham refused to speculate on potentially recalling Romoney Crichlow from Bradford City during the January transfer window.

Crichlow has made six senior appearances for Huddersfield so far in his career, with the bulk of the 23-year-old’s development coming out on loan. He featured for Swindon Town and Plymouth Argyle last season, pushing himself further.

This year, he’s on the books at Bradford and looking to help Mark Hughes’ side compete for promotion in League Two.

Hughes and Bradford are yet to receive any indication that Huddersfield will be looking to recall the centre-back in the January transfer window, despite their still precarious position in the Championship table.

Fotheringham was quizzed on whether he’s given any thought to Crichlow in Friday morning’s press conference, yet the Huddersfield boss wasn’t keen to speculate on ins or outs at the John Smith’s Stadium, citing the ongoing situation where Dean Hoyle is looking to sell the club.

“I don’t want to speculate at all on the January window,” Fotheringham explained. “I don’t want to speculate at all about ins and outs. We all know about the situation we are in as a club with our chairman wanting to sell the club. There isn’t a big amount of funds available to sign players or bring players in. I’m really happy with the group I’ve got.”

There was further questions asked regarding January and the process Huddersfield will oversee when it comes to looking at the number of players they’ve sent out on loan.

“Respectfully, I wouldn’t like to speculate on anything with regards to loans in January, like I’ve said before,” Fotheringham stated.

Crichlow has already made over 20 appearances for Bradford since arriving at Valley Parade on loan and looks on course for his most involved loan spell yet under Hughes.

The Verdict

Fotheringham is right to avoid speculating too much when it comes to the decisions he’s going to make with players currently at other clubs.

Of course, he’s going to have given some thought to Crichlow and how he’s getting on at Bradford, yet it’s hardly going to be his approach to discuss that openly.

In terms of Huddersfield’s depth at centre-back, they are still well stocked despite Yuta Nakayama’s injury, with Matty Pearson closing in on a return to action to add to Tom Lees, Will Boyle and Michal Helik. Jonathan Hogg can play in a three-man defence, whilst there’s still Luke Mbete on the books on loan from Man City.
