England will host Germany at Wembley Stadium this evening for a highly-anticipated clash and a rematch of the nail-biting Euro 2022 final.
The last time the two sides met, the Lionesses emerged as European champions thanks to goals from Ella Toone and Chloe Kelly. The latter’s stoppage time winner snubbed eight-time champions Germany at the death, and handed England their first major trophy. Sarina Wiegman, who has also won the European Championships with the Netherlands, will lead her side out against Germany again tonight in the capital.
“Of course we will always cherish that memory and it was one of the biggest moments in my career, in my life,” the England boss said. “We are focused on now with a different team and it’s the start of the next Euros cycle.”
England will welcome Germany back to Wembley tonight, Friday, October 25th. The fixture is scheduled to kick-off at 19.30 BST and will be the first of two international friendlies to be played by Sarina Wiegman’s Lionesses over the October international break.
Wiegman revealed earlier this week that in addition to Lauren James, two other members of her squad will be absent from tonight’s game. Fran Kirby has been ruled out, but may be able to return for Tuesday’s meeting with South Africa.
“Fran wants to be available so badly. She moved club and has played four games in a row, and unfortunately she has an injury which isn’t big. She needs minutes so hopefully she gets fit and starts playing again,” the manager said.
Lotte Wubben-Moy is also unavailable due to concussion protocols.
Yes, for those unable to get down to Wembley, the match will be shown on TV. For UK viewers, the game will be broadcast live on ITV1, with coverage starting at 19.00 BST. Additonally, subscribers can tune in via the ITVX live stream. STV and the STV Player will also be showing the action.
BBC Radio 5 Live will be broadcasting the match for those looking for radio coverage.
If you want to watch England vs Germany outside of the UK, you will need a VPN to access the coverage. VPN viewers must ensure they comply with any local regulations and terms of their service provider.
