How the unmade Blade movie played a part in success of hit film Sinners
The successful horror film Sinners used costumes originally prepared for Marvel's troubled Blade movie, as revealed by producer Sev Ohanian.
Ohanian explained that Blade was set to feature a past era, similar to Sinners, and costume designer Ruth Carter had a warehouse of period-appropriate clothes.
Marvel Studios generously allowed Sinners to purchase these costumes at cost, saving the production significant time and effort, particularly for background actors.
Despite the costume connection, the Blade film, starring Mahershala Ali, has faced numerous setbacks, including director changes and an indefinitely postponed release date.
In contrast, Sinners, directed by Ryan Coogler, has been a major box office success, earning over $364 million worldwide, with Coogler securing a rare deal to own the film after 25 years.
