After three consecutive seasons winning a trophy, last year ended without silverware for Lazio. The Biancocelesti finished sixth in Serie A, were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League in the Round of 16, and departed the Coppa Italia in the Quarter-Finals.
Other top flight Serie A clubs have had more money to invest in new players this season but Lazio have just about kept up with the leaders early on. With the end of the year fast approaching, it seemed like a good time to evaluate their campaign so far – and see if there is any chance for celebrations this season.
With both the Milan clubs, Napoli and even Atalanta favored to finish in the top four, sportsbooks will be offering attractive odds for Lazio to win anything this season – and one can discover the best places to bet at sites such as canadasportsbetting.ca. But do Le Aquile have a chance of glory?

The short answer to this question at this stage of the season would seem to be no. Although Lazio are doing well to keep up in the race for a top four finish and Champions League qualification, Napoli and Milan have already established a healthy points gap at the top. Results have been too inconsistent to have much faith in a run for the scudetto.
But there have been some good results against clubs at the top of Serie A. Last season’s champion, Inter, were beaten 3-1 in October and there was also a draw away at Atalanta. Although it probably will not have much bearing on the title race, there was also the small matter of beating Roma in September 2021.
The Coppa Italia might seem like Lazio’s best chance of lifting a trophy this season. Due to the way the tournament is set up, they will enter in the Round of 16 and are guaranteed a home tie against the winner of the game between Udinese and Crotone.
Both those two clubs are very beatable and then it is just a case of how kind the draws for the next few rounds are. Lazio broke the stranglehold that Juventus had over this competition back in 2019 and it could be about time for another cup triumph.
After 12 years of not even qualifying for the Champions League Group stage, Lazio made it to the Round of 16 last season where they met a rampant Bayern Munich. Finishing sixth last season meant another Europa League campaign this year – and a tough draw saw Lazio facing Marseille, Lokomotiv Moscow and Galatasaray with just one side guaranteed a place in the Round of 16.
Although the Group Stage has not gone too badly for Lazio, a win in Russia will be crucial for their chances of progression. A home game against Galatasaray to finish the phase off could see Lazio go through as group winners. The unknown quantity in evaluating Lazio’s chances then is the eight Champions League clubs dropping down into the Europa League at the knockout stage.
After Simone Inzaghi left to take the manager’s job at Inter before the season kicked off it was always going to be interesting to see how the players would perform for the new man, Maurizio Sarri. His style of football does not really fit with the way Lazio had set up in recent seasons and it has taken a while for his way of thinking to be conveyed to the squad.
But if Lazio can play well in the games before the end of the year, then it could put itself in a good position to really challenge in the New Year. The fitness of Ciro Immobile would seem to be key to any success, so the sooner he comes back from injury the better. The main thing is that there is still a chance in all three competitions – and Lazio fans will take that at the moment.
