Swansea's long search for a striker is set to come to an end.
How much Swansea City are actually set to pay for Celtic number nine Adam Idah has been revealed.
The former Norwich City striker's move to Wales is set to be confirmed soon, ending Swansea's summer-long search for a goalscorer.
Alan Sheehan's side have been in for a number of options up top in this window but have either failed to complete moves or been beaten rivals to their targets.
Idah moved from Norwich to Celtic as part of a £9 million deal last summer, following a successful loan spell with the Scottish champions. His goalscoring has dried up under Brendan Rodgers so far this season, but the former 13-goal player is set for a new beginning with the Swans.
It had been reported that the Championship side were going to pay £7 million for the Irish international, as per The Irish Sun. However, it has now been stated by Wales Online that, while the fee for Idah will be a significant one, it falls short of the previously touted mark.
As late as Thursday, Swansea were still exploring multiple options in the market, but have since decided to home in on the 24-year-old. He made his debut for the Canaries back in the 2019/20 campaign, while they were in the Premier League, but was never able to achieve a double-digit scoring season until he moved up to Glasgow.
A medical is booked for today, as per Mike McGrath, and the eventual completion of the transfer for the Irish striker will quickly follow, just in time before the window closes at 7pm on Monday, September 1st.
Once the Idah deal is over the line, Swansea are going to focus their attention on a left-sided defender, as per Tom Coleman. Aside from Josh Tymon, Sheehan has no other senior left-backs to call on, as things stand. They would also like to sign a winger before the end of the summer, but that, according to Coleman, is seen as less of a priority.
Even if the fee that the Swans are set to pay Celtic for the Irishman doesn't come that close to the previously mooted £7 million mark, it will by no means be an insignificant amount of money.
It's unlikely that Celtic would only want to get a 50 per cent return on the player, so it'll be no shock if City are preparing to pay upwards of £5 million for Idah. And that's, ultimately, for a player with 11 Championship goals in 71 appearances in the competition.
This is not a proven goalscorer that Sheehan is bringing in. They are banking on the player finally realising the potential that he has shown throughout his career. That, combined with the money that's on the table, is what brings about the risk for Swansea with this transfer.
