Erik ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino are reportedly the leading contenders for the Manchester United job – but how do the two managers compare?

Pochettino began his managerial career with Espanyol before heading to the Premier League with Southampton and then Tottenham.

His impressive work at Spurs saw him linked with United following Jose Mourinho’s departure but they eventually decided to appoint Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Argentinian was appointed as Paris Saint-Germain manager in January 2021 and they look set to win the Ligue 1 title this season. But he’s reportedly unhappy in France and would be keen on a return to England.

Ten Hag is also regarded as a strong candidate for the permanent United job after earning plaudits for the job he has done at Ajax.

He famously took the Eredivisie side to the Champions League semi-finals in 2018-19 but is now looking to test himself in one of Europe’s top five leagues.

“I think I’m ready for it [coaching abroad]. I would be happy to take up that challenge.” Ten Hag told de Volkskrant in December 2021. “But I’m not chasing it. If it turns out that that step will never come, I will not say that my coaching career has failed.

“But I think I have sufficient competencies to take on that challenge.”

We’ve compared their managerial records to see who comes out on top. Note: we’ve not included stats from Ten Hg’s time in charge of Bayern Munich’s reserves.
