How Ange should line up against Southampton

Tomorrow afternoon, Spurs will host Southampton for game week 31 of the Premier League season. The reality is not many people can be bothered with it, especially with the first leg of the Europa League quarter final with Eintracht Frankfurt just four days later.

With that in mind, it has been reported that Ange is set to rest Micky van de Ven, James Maddison, and Heung-Min Son for the game. We can probably - and hopefully - expect to see more changes than that too.

So, how should Ange line up for the visit of Southampton.

How Ange Postecoglou should line up for the game against Southampton

In goal, there is not much issue with playing Guglielmo Vicario. Goalkeepers have much less risk of injury than outfield players, given the physical disparity. Sure, he has already been injured this season, but how likely is that to happen again. Plus, although it is not an important game, a win would be handy to try and lift the mood.

At right-back, Pedro Porro feels like the play. Although he has played an awful lot for club and country this season, that has wained in the last few weeks - and Djed Spence has seen an extreme spike in minutes over the last few months - albeit he did not go on international duty. Either would be fine, but not both.

At centre-back, it has to be Archie Gray and Ben Davies. We would love to see Gray get a run of games in midfield, but it is just so important that Cristian Romero and van de Ven are both rested for Thursday evening. Kevin Danso and Radu Dragusin are not available, so Davies and Gray it is.

At left-back, Destiny Udogie feels optimal. It feels unlikely that he will start against Frankfurt, so it is important for one of Spence or Porro to get rest. If there was more depth at centre back, the full back duo could be Udogie and Gray, but alas.

In midfield, there isn't too much choice. The play feels like a midfield three of; Yves Bissouma, Lucas Bergvall, and Pape Matar Sarr. It is unlikely that Bissouma will start on Thursday. One of Bergvall and Sarr may well do, but there just isn't much choice. Although this is what we would go with, rather than a prediction, it is also with an attempt to be realistic - and Ange playing a youth midfielder is not realistic.

Finally, the front three. Why not (R/L) Brennan Johnson, Dominic Solanke, and Mikey Moore. This is a good chance for Johnson to get back into form, and it feels like Wilson Odobert is more likely to start on Thursday. You could make an argument for Solanke to be rested, but it feels like he could do with a goal for his confidence. He also got rest during the break. This is a great opportunity for Moore to get his first Premier League goal.
