Wide-man Díaz, for his part, has been tipped for a move to Spain with a view to the summer, amid rumoured interest in his services on the part of Barcelona.

It appears to be the country’s capital, though, which is in fact viewed as a more likely landing spot down the line.

Speaking in an interview with Ser Deportivos, as cited by Mundo Deportivo, on Wednesday, Mané Díaz was drawn on the alleged past interest of both Atlético and Real Madrid in his son’s signature.

And, as alluded to above, his response has since turned heads in La Liga and the Premier League alike, amid the revelation that the Liverpool star maintains ‘hope’ of one day lining out for one of the capital clubs:

“When he left Porto I was not aware that there was anything positive with the Madrid clubs. I heard things, but I never knew if there was anything else. With Liverpool everything was more precise. The directive was more precise for Luis to arrive there.”

Mané Díaz continued:

“It was hoped that he could come here (to Madrid). (Fellow countryman) Falcao had already been, James (Rodríguez) too… In the end it didn’t happen, but hope is still not lost. He is playing and the clubs are active.”
